No, that song wasn’t played - but it sure sounds like they’re driving that train after drums - the Eyes is beyond frenetic (it was 1976...). Earlier the show was fantastic - really liked the LIG>GDTRFB and the second set before drums. The jam after Eyes is also really nice - my brain is dripping as I listen to this segment. Overall super solid, drippy psychedelic show. This AUD is far superior to the SBD.

First and only GD show. Came over from Geneseo with Mike, Dennis, etc. General admission so i kind of got lost in the crowd with my camera. Had no weed but folks shared... Enjoyed it! I would post photos but not sure how.

Subject: Better than Dick's Picks 20
I have to admit, I never fully appreciated this show (especially the 2nd set) from listening to the Dick's Picks. I always thought this show was kind of overrated compared to the other big jam suite sets of 1976 like 7/17, 7/18, and 10/3.
The problem for me, as Zaorish notes below, was the sound on the DP is very "flat." This is actually a problem with a lot of the Fall '76 soundboards, where everything seems to be in a very one-dimensional sonic range. For this show in particular, it had the effect if making it sound completely and utterly lifeless.
Not so at all with this excellent aud recording. Though it's not quite as clear as the sbd, the sound is much brighter and fuller. The energy of the music really comes through on this copy in a way that just doesn't on the sbd.
Thanks to this aud, I finally "get" this show, and this 2nd set is easily one of the finest of the year, if not the best!

Some times you get lucky. Drove to Syracuse from Clinton in my friend's grandmother's Buick Electra. General admission so to the floor we go. Orange Barrel $3 a hit, two for $5. Cold Rain opener so perfect. I remember to this day the reverb on Jerry's guitar for Candyman. Did someone say electric? GDTR first set closer with such a nice, long intro lead. Second set Playin sandwich with what today is referred to as "Orange Tango Jam" and I know why. Wake Up to Find Out Eyes. The whole show, the crowd and even the security folks were enraptured with the music that night. And to those few who hate on Donna, let me tell you, this night she shined. Long hair flowing and swaying, So magical. Needless to say, I got on the bus!

Got to say, even though the recording is so-so that one cool version of Eyes. I like some others better but for a change of pace.......wow.

I first got into this through the Dick's Pick (vol. 20). The whole show shines, particularly the LIG>GDTRFB and the whole Playin' extravaganza. I partcularly love the Alternative Spanish jam after Eyes.
The only question remains: do you choose the SBD or the AUD?
SBD: It's clean, but flat as a board.
AUD: A little muddy but very big and beautiful, especially the drums. The crowd response is also perfect. Listen to the fans swell with joy at Jerry's first subbbblime turn in Goin' Down the Road.
Anyway I think you should choose this aud over the SBD.

As a 1976 junkie, this one has been bursting from my speakers on a regular basis for over 25 years. This is a classic AUD recording and really captures that "I'm there" feeling.
1st set highlights are a fabulous "Tennessee Jed" and the "Let It Grow" > "GDTRFB" closer. BLAZING stuff!
The 2nd set is one long journey through GD heaven, one of my all-time favorites, seriously inspired from the first note to the last. "The Wheel" is just just incredible incredible, perhaps my favorite version ever. "Comes A Time" is also a serious highlight in a set full of them.
I can't say enough about this SUPERB gem of a show, particularly the 2nd set. The SDBD is a tad dry compared to this great AUD, but get your hands on this show As Soon As Possible, in either format!

just an awsome show, gota love the long grouping inside the playin itb, offering op's to space out and create, not just transitions, but interstital stand alone music, very cool. also worth checking out the july orpheum run for similar work.
email me at fieldhouse11277@hotmail.com happy to share the full soundboard with some good listeners.

What a concert! It was the first time I saw the band and they blew my doors off. I got to see them the next year at Colgate, then a 2 years later in Buffalo and shortly thereafter I saw Jerry in his own band at Brockport. It always amazed me how each show could be so different, (I suppose it could have been the state of mind I was in each time as well). However, I must say this was by far the best. It was electric and just seemed to grow with each song. Thank you for posting this 31 year old memory!!!

Great Show! 4.8 star show, 3 star audio quality - not bad for the era.
In da good ol days, before they pulled the SBDs, I used to ignore muddy AUDs...but now I'm discovering shows like this one are VERY enjoyable, despite the less than perfect audio quality. War Memorial seems to be one of those arenas where the band was consistently ON....check out the 82/83 shows there.

The sound is not that bad and it allows alot of the harmonics of Phil especially to come through when he thumps those high notes - Whole first set is rocking and rowdy with an EXCEPTIONAL Tenn Jed, sweeeeeet FOTD (which I do not believe would sound as good on a board) but the real smoker is Let it Grow in a year known for some unbelievably hot show stopping versions....
In addition this is the only Let it Grow>GDTRFB I think they ever played and the Playin>Wheel is nice but the Sampson crushes it. Eyes and the jam out / dancin are really great as well...

this one sounds pretty crummy. this is one of my, if not the, favorite eyez. the preceeding jam is also a gem. only problem is... THIS SHOW IS A DP! so, unless i bring my cds to work with me, then i am forced to listen to a crummy version of a great show. someone PLEASE clean this up and post again so that this will hopefully get some more attention. tx.
